Littleton Youth Softball Divisions

We have divisions for all ages, and we aim to have fun! Click the tabs below to learn about each division's eligibility, rules, and time commitments.

LITTLETON YOUTH SOFTBALL

Are you ready to have fun and learn the game of softball? Join Littleton Youth Softball, where we focus on building skills, foster teamwork, making friends, and having a blast!

We're part of the Cortland Recreational Softball League, which includes teams from Groton, Acton-Boxborough, Ayer-Shirley, Pepperell, Lunenburg, and Harvard.

Our seasons run:

  • Spring: Mid-April to mid-June
  • Summer: July to early August 
  • Fall: September to October

We have divisions for all ages. 

T-BALL DIVISION (PRE-K AND K)

  • T-ball is run in the spring for kids in preschool and kindergarten. Children must be born before September 1, 2021 in order to be eligible to play.  They should also be able to understand instructions and safely swing a bat.
  • T-ball is run on Saturday mornings from 8:30 - 9:30 am and features a practice followed by a scrimmage each week.

rookie Division (Grades 1-3)

  • Fundamentals: Learn the basics of throwing, catching, batting, and fielding.
  • At-bats: Every player gets an at-bat each inning.
  • Pitching: Coaches pitch, introducing pitching for players mid-season, and there are no strikeouts.
  • Introducing leading off the base and outs in the infield.

minors Division (Grades 4-5)

  • Games are ~90 minutes long.
  • Spring season: Games are on weeknights, and practices are on Saturdays. Pre-season starts in March with optional practices and assessments to determine equal-ability teams.
  • Summer season: Two weeknight games on Monday-Thursday (no practices).
  • Fall season: Games are on Saturdays at times that don't conflict with soccer (fall practices are optional).
  • Playoffs: Held in the spring.
  • Basic rules: Players begin pitching. Coaches pitch if needed to ensure all players have an opportunity to hit. Players can lead and steal bases, except home.

majors Division (Grades 6-7)

  • Competitive play: Players pitch, and runners can steal second, third, and home.
  • Pitching distance: Increased distance.
  • Games are 105 minutes long.
  • Spring season: Games are on weeknights, and practices are on Saturdays. Pre-season starts in March with optional practices and assessments to determine equal-ability teams.
  • Summer season: Two weeknight games on Monday-Thursday (no practices).
  • Fall season: Games are on Saturdays at times that don't conflict with soccer (fall practices are optional).
  • Playoffs: Held in the spring.

seniors Division (Grades 8-11)

  • Games are 105 minutes long.
  • Dropped third strike rule: The dropped third strike rule is in effect.
  • Seasons: Spring, summer, and fall.
  • Games are typically on Saturdays at 6 pm for spring and at noon for fall. Practices are based on player availability.
